A few points about protecting your yourself on-line:
- When posting to social media sites remember that what you put on the site is on the World Wide Web. Therefore, it is visible for everyone to see in many cases. This is dependent of the site’s security settings availability and how you configure them. Keep in mind that you may not want to post every detail of your life on these sites. You don’t usually know who is reading your page.
- Use caution when giving out your home number. If someone, Googles your home number they can see the address and the name of the person to whom the number is registered. This is generated through Google maps and will give them a pinpoint map, directions, and possibly a streetside view of your house. You can remove your number from this listing by simply clicking Request to have you name removed from this list.
- Use caution when posting pictures. You probably don’t want to post pictures of the front of your house. You may post something months later about the problems in your neighborhood. Again this leaves possibility that an unintended party can locate your home.
